24.06.2009 - Interview with Sascha Heyer (SUI)

Are you satisfied with the results your team has achieved for the start of the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour season?

Yes. Especially the results on the European Championship Tour (1st,2nd,5th) and the way we play this season is giving us confidence for the next steps. Our 2008 season including the OG in Beijing has been the worst for the last couple years. Our recent seeding to start the events does not make the way back easier. But we are already back in the FIVB Top 15 and working to get back to the Top 10.

What are your expectations for  the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships in Norway?

Our goal is to play constantly on a high level by doing less mistakes and putting pressure in serv & block. If we maintain this goal, we have a good chance to go for a surprise in the championships. We won  t make it easy to win against us!

What are the goals you have set  for your team at the Moscow Grand Slam 2009?

At least to reach the round of last 16 with the tasty mood for more.

Do you have a favorite tournament?  Why?

My favourite event is the Swatch-FIVB Grand Slam in Gstaad. The scenery in the swiss alps is even for us swiss athletes very spectacular. Playing next to cows, besides wonderful chalets, breathtaking nature and added with the enthusiasm of the great swiss crowd on the centre court  – that’s the way I like it.

With a fourth of the SWATCH FIVB World  Tour season completed, what are your the expectations for  the 2009 international Beach Volleyball season?

We are still on a hard road back to the FIVB’s Top10  after a disatrous season 2008 and we keep on fighting for this goal.

What teams and/or players have surprised you to start the 2009 season?

Alison/Harley. Actually we knew that these two guys will be a very strong and competitive team, but I did not expect them to rule the World Tour like they do at the moment.
