08.07.2011 - April Ross: Hope that will be no time for sight-seeing

April Ross – the 2009 FIVB World champion in Stavanger (Norway), the winner of gold medal at Grand Slam in Stavanger – 2011 and the silver medalist of Moscow Grand Slam -2010, has answered some questions before the start of another great beach-volley event in the capital of Russia.

- April, your impressions from the first half of the season?

- My impression of the first half of season is that everyone on the World Tour has improved over the off season and is very-very good. Jen (Kessy) and I are happy with our performance for the first half and hope to continue to do as well or better in the second half of the season, of course we are always trying to win gold.

- Was the World Championship in Rome the main event of the year for you and Jenny?

- We were looking towards Rome as the main event of the season, but I don’t think we prepared properly for it this time. With the short amount of time between the bronze medal match in the Beijing Grand Slam and World Championships we weren’t as fresh as we would have like to be. But 5th is a good finish in World Championships and now that it is over we are definitely focused on the Grand Slams.

-Last year you were second in Moscow. Are you going to take the gold this time?

-I think we have been to the tournament every year since Moscow began having it and it’s gotten bigger and better each year. It is a prestigious tournament and we would love to win the gold there!

- Who are the main favorites in Moscow? Your opinion…

- The main favorites in the Moscow Grand Slam have to be everyone who has done well this season so far. The field is very strong so everyone is capable of doing well and it makes for very exciting matches for the fans. The Russian teams have played better each tournament so it could be a good one for them too.

- Do you like Moscow Grand Slam? Organization, crowd, the city itself?

- I do like the Moscow Grand Slam. I think it is a very well-run tournament in a very cool location. The crowd that comes is great and cheer loud, which is always fun for the players. We have been to Red Square and seen a little bit of the city, but we’d rather be playing in the tournament the whole week and not have time to sight-see!

- Top-3 stops of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour that you like the most?

I have to say Stavanger, Norway because we have won there more than anywhere else, another favorite of ours is the Klagenfurt, Austria Grand Slam, but all the Grand Slams, including Moscow, are top tier and really great to play in.
